Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: Sorry I didn’t get to post my weekly favorites – I was in London! But I’ve got loads of favorites for this week.

Things We’ve Been Enjoying

Annie

  • Marianas Trench – this band’s songs give me middle school days vibes. I’m really diggin’ their 2014 album.

Juliet

  • Two Asian musicians: Khalil Fong 方大同 and J.Sheon 街巷 – I love how they incorporate many genres into their music, and it’s been great to put on the background while I’m working!
  • Watched the movie Hidden Figures on my flight to London – loved all the leading ladies & by the end I was like “hell yeah!” New lady crush? Taraji P. Henson

Annie: I’ve had the most productive week ever. I am very happy about that.

Things We’ve Been Enjoying

Annie

  • Chris Pratt went on the Ellen Degeneres show to play the game “Speak Out”. Hilarity ensues. Watch it here!
  • I started reading a little bit of Who Says You Can’t? You Do before bed every night. If you’re feeling stuck in life, this is a good read!

Musings, person of interest

Person of Interest: Kenneth

Name: Kenneth V.
Occupation: Photographer and Trader-in-training
Born in: Canada
Grew up in: Bangkok/Toronto
Current Living in: Toronto

How we met
Kenneth and I went to the same international school in Thailand; we were classmates in first and third grade. That was the extent of our relationship. We had mutual friends, but we weren’t close enough to call each other friends. After Kenneth moved to Toronto at the end of seventh grade, we connected through Facebook once it became the popular social media platform to be on (RIP Myspace). He was someone I’d see pop up on my newsfeed once in awhile and it made me wonder what he was up to. However, because we weren’t really friends, I felt weird randomly messaging him. This blog gave me an excuse to catch up on his life and also because since he had not gone the traditional “go to college after high school then find a job” route, I wanted to learn about his experience.

What do you no longer believe?

Prologue by Juliet

Ramit Sethi is a personal finance advisor and entrepreneur, creator of I Will Teach You To Be Rich. I first heard him on the podcast So Money, and then subscribed to his newsletter. In one newsletter, he asked his followers, “What do you no longer believe?” You can check out how he and other people answer his question here, and how Annie and I answer the question below.

Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: There’s been a challenge that I have always wanted to tackle and my close friends have wanted me to do: MORE DATING. I think I’m ready for more dating…

Things We’ve Been Enjoying

Annie

  • This interesting article about love and relationships. Unconditional relationships are what I strive to build in my own life.
  • Oldie but goodie. This article talks about living in a technological world and how it negatively affects our relationships with people.

Person of Interest: Paloma

Meet Paloma Hennessy, one of my best friends from childhood. We met in middle school during orchestra, and the rest is history. We are different in many ways – me being louder and more aggressive; and her being more thoughtful and reserved – but we complement each other well. Her path in life has been vastly different than mine, and I used the blog as an excuse to dig into her thoughts and life – although I really didn’t need to use the blog as an excuse now, right?

Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: Although I am one-half of this blog and also have a YouTube channel, I still get nervous when I put a little bit of me out there in the world. It allows other people to pass opinions and judgment on who you are and what you do. But you know what? It makes me feel good to know that I know who I am and I believe that what I put online is a pretty good reflection of me. This is just a long preface for me to say: I wrote a LinkedIn article about lessons I’ve learned while figuring out what I want to do in life. Please check it out and let me know your thoughts!

Annie: I haven’t been myself this past week. But being around people and talking about it with people I trust has been helpful.

Things We’ve Been Enjoying

Annie

  • Newest episode of Ear Biscuits, where Rhett & Link have the electronic battleship game voice guy on. Back in August 2016 on GMMore, they played battleship and was impressed with the voice, so naturally they asked the Internet to find the guy. You can listen to the episode on iTunes or watch it on YouTube.

Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: What a long week! I’m currently studying for a data scientist certification, and studying isn’t my strong suit. Counting down till the days to London (insert wiggle dance).

Annie: I’ve had an up and down week. Beginning of the week started out bleh but towards the end I felt better. Sometimes I get these waves of lethargy that I have a hard time shaking, where I just don’t feel like doing anything or talking to anyone. On a brighter note, my dad is back for a few days, so we’re hanging out. We haven’t had some good ol’ father/daughter bonding time in a while so it’s nice. Hope you all had a good week!

Juliet

  • The Art of Manliness’ episode on Doing More with Less. I was interested in hearing the difference between a “chaser” and a “stretcher”, and how to keep a stretcher mentality even if you hit the big times.
  • I usually start my morning by reading The Skimm, which delivers news every morning to my inbox. They break down complex situations around the world into words that I understand – highly recommend you guys to subscribe!
  • Cat shark on a Roomba – cause why not?

It’s Finally Springtime in Boston

null

The weather has warmed up a lot over the last couple of days. Sure, we still get a random day of 50 degrees Fahrenheit, but we’re still doing pretty good with more warm days than cold. So my roommate Steph and I took advantage of a sunny weekend and decided to go hiking at Middlesex Fells Reservation.
