Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: What a long week! I’m currently studying for a data scientist certification, and studying isn’t my strong suit. Counting down till the days to London (insert wiggle dance).

Annie: I’ve had an up and down week. Beginning of the week started out bleh but towards the end I felt better. Sometimes I get these waves of lethargy that I have a hard time shaking, where I just don’t feel like doing anything or talking to anyone. On a brighter note, my dad is back for a few days, so we’re hanging out. We haven’t had some good ol’ father/daughter bonding time in a while so it’s nice. Hope you all had a good week!

  • The Art of Manliness’ episode on Doing More with Less. I was interested in hearing the difference between a “chaser” and a “stretcher”, and how to keep a stretcher mentality even if you hit the big times.
  • I usually start my morning by reading The Skimm, which delivers news every morning to my inbox. They break down complex situations around the world into words that I understand – highly recommend you guys to subscribe!
  • Cat shark on a Roomba – cause why not?

It’s Finally Springtime in Boston

null

The weather has warmed up a lot over the last couple of days. Sure, we still get a random day of 50 degrees Fahrenheit, but we’re still doing pretty good with more warm days than cold. So my roommate Steph and I took advantage of a sunny weekend and decided to go hiking at Middlesex Fells Reservation.

Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: Started planning my trip to London, Philippines, and Taiwan! Annie, you’ll come see me while I’m in Taiwan, right? Also… do we watch too much YouTube? HAHAHA…

Annie: Hahaha, we seriously do watch too much YouTube…but it’s okay. It’s our shared hobby! 😀 Week one of living alone – check. It’s been nice and quiet in the house. Doesn’t feel much different than when my mom is home. Except that now, I’m actually not lazy and do house chores (not that I was lazy before…it just wasn’t constantly on my mind).

  • I feel like I have to mention at least one thing about Rhett & Link each week because I want to share what makes me laugh! In this episode, they do the “try not to flinch” challenge, but instead of just watching YouTube videos, they use their audio, vision, tactile senses to invoke flinches. Check it out!
  • This is a few weeks old but I stumbled upon this video of Josh Gad on Jimmy Fallon doing Box of Microphones (Disney Edition). Hilarious.
  • Alike” a short film about creativity in society.
  • Bohemian Rhapsody cover by Pentatonix
  • Alicia Keys and John Mayer are LOVE. Listen to this mash up of “If I ain’t got you” and “Gravity”.

Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: This has been an emotionally draining week for me – I haven’t felt like this in a long time. There was a lot of emotions flying around me this week, and with my own emotions on top of that, it was a lot to handle.

Annie: This week my mom flew back home to Thailand. It’s been quiet in the house by myself, but I’m getting used to it by playing music. It’s cool to experience living on my own without any housemates – something that I’ve done my whole life. I have a feeling that it might get lonely after awhile. We shall see.

  • Ear Biscuits is back! You can check out Rhett and Link’s weekly podcast on iTunes or YouTube or Soundcloud! I couldn’t stop laughing while listening to the first episode, about their road rage incident.
  • Favorite song of the week: Symphony by Clean Bandit

Juliet

  • This Tyler Ward original song SOS – I truly believe that music has the ability to heal anyone.
  • My female celebrity crush of all time is Kristen Bell and she was recently on The Late Late Show with James Corden and faced a mishap during a skit.

Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: It’s hard to be traveling and then go right into work after you land. At one point driving on the freeway, I got nervous because I could feel the tiredness seep in. Note to self! Try to work from home the following day if this ever happens again.

Annie: Sometimes getting out and into a new environment can do wonders. This week I visited Taipei on a day trip by myself and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I visited two museums (post about it here) and it felt good to take quality photos again.

Things We’ve Been Enjoying

Annie

  • I love Harlan Coben. His novels always suck me in and I have a hard time putting his books down. I finished the first book in the Myron Bolitar series, called Deal Breaker, in about 5-6 hours.

Juliet

  • My friend and I participated in a taping of The Late Late Show with James Corden, episode 310! I’m trying to find where to watch the full episode so I can see if I look really sunburnt on camera.
  • I love Costco, and Jimmy Kimmel made this short PSA on Costco etiquette rules that I totally agree with!

You Bought Stuff!

Hi guys,

I want to apologize for a late post! I just came back from a trip and have been in zombie mode, trying to make it to the weekend.

I got a “couple” things in March, from my trip as well as my FabFitFun package, so I made a video to share them all with you guys! Enjoy!

XO Juliet

Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: Annie challenged me to create the illustration for my post this week. My first reaction was: SIIIIGH. There’s a reason why I didn’t stick with art classes for very long. I have creative ideas in my head, but it’s difficult for me to turn them into reality  due to lack of skills. I also believe that if someone else can make my dream a better reality, why am I killing myself over in order to get it done?! But I gave it my best shot anyways, so wooooo!

Annie: I realized that I put too much stress on myself. My overthinking mind goes to the worst when I’m uncertain about things and that causes me to stress out even more. Then I become overwhelmed. I need to figure out a way prevent myself from getting to that point.

Things We’ve Been Enjoying

Annie

  • This hilarious episode of Good Mythical More: Are You Wiping Wrong?
  • I stumbled upon this video of a 36 year old woman named Sam Bailey, who won the X-Factor in 2013. She sets a great example for many out there that it’s never too late to follow your dreams! The video is over an hour long of all her performances from her auditions to her final performance.

Juliet

  • Netflix show: One Day at a Time. It’s a sitcom remake of a 1975 series about a Cuban-American family. The mom is a separated military veteran; the son is a tween; the daughter is a strong-headed, feminist woman; and the grandma is just sassy. This show isn’t like many others: within the first few episodes, they’ve touched upon sexism, sexuality, and treatment of veterans.

Our MBTI Challenge

Female Party Crasher (Part 1)

juliet_dudesseries2

For those of you who do not know, I am currently part of a 2-year IT rotational program. A little over 3 weeks ago, I started my last rotation on the IT architecture team. And man… it’s like a whole different world than anything I’ve experienced.

My Career Trajectory
My drive to learn technical things came because I didn’t like my dad’s reaction when I told him I was going to take a Java programming class in high school. He kept going, “Really, honey? Programming is hard. Are you sure you want to take that class?” It wasn’t that my dad didn’t believe in me because I was a girl, it was because he didn’t want me to quit halfway if things got too hard. He was right – programming is hard. I cried so much senior year of high school because of that class.

Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: It’s been such a productive week! Highlights:

  • At work, not only am I taking training for a Data Scientist Certification, but I’m also working on a project that I know will sharpen my business acumen and analytical thinking skills.
  • Amped up my training for the Grand Canyon… a lot.
  • Restarted studying for the GMAT and signed up for the exam so I don’t slack off.

I’m pretty proud of myself. Good job, Juj.

Annie: I’ve had a pretty up and down week. The beginning was super productive, got lots done, but then because of the rainy and gloomy weather, the rest of the week felt bleh. On the bright side, I finally caught up with one of my best friends and it was really nice to talk to her again. I also went to see Logan, which was a pretty good movie. Tomorrow is the beginning of another beautiful week.

  • Casey Neistat is an amazing creator and has a YouTube channel that garnered millions of views because of his original content. He’s a big inspiration to me and many others because he advocates for doing what you love, even when others say you can’t. His recent video is about just that – watch it and be inspired.
  • Beautiful rendition of Imagine by Pentatonix. Can’t say enough good things about them. Their voices are incredible!
