Hiking in Beitou with the family!

null

Last Sunday, I went hiking with my dad, brother, and his girlfriend. My dad flew back to Taiwan for a couple of days for vacation, so I figured why not go hiking together? That would be a fun activity to do as family.

A Not-My-Birthday Cake for Me

DSCN5167.jpg

If I had to live in one pair of shoes for the rest of my life, I would choose either Rainbows (flip-flops) or Birkenstocks (sandals). That should tell you what kind of gal I am.

Me and flats? We don’t get along. I only bought this pair of flats to wear to work when I didn’t feel like wearing heels. I only wore them out this past weekend because it was Easter Sunday, my friend Marina requested us to dress nice for Easter brunch, and I didn’t want to wear heels. When I got home, I immediately put these flats in the donation pile because they ripped the skin around the ankles even though I’ve worn them multiple times before. I hate flats so much.

Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: What a long week! I’m currently studying for a data scientist certification, and studying isn’t my strong suit. Counting down till the days to London (insert wiggle dance).

Annie: I’ve had an up and down week. Beginning of the week started out bleh but towards the end I felt better. Sometimes I get these waves of lethargy that I have a hard time shaking, where I just don’t feel like doing anything or talking to anyone. On a brighter note, my dad is back for a few days, so we’re hanging out. We haven’t had some good ol’ father/daughter bonding time in a while so it’s nice. Hope you all had a good week!

Juliet

  • The Art of Manliness’ episode on Doing More with Less. I was interested in hearing the difference between a “chaser” and a “stretcher”, and how to keep a stretcher mentality even if you hit the big times.
  • I usually start my morning by reading The Skimm, which delivers news every morning to my inbox. They break down complex situations around the world into words that I understand – highly recommend you guys to subscribe!
  • Cat shark on a Roomba – cause why not?

It’s Finally Springtime in Boston

null

The weather has warmed up a lot over the last couple of days. Sure, we still get a random day of 50 degrees Fahrenheit, but we’re still doing pretty good with more warm days than cold. So my roommate Steph and I took advantage of a sunny weekend and decided to go hiking at Middlesex Fells Reservation.

Make Yo Bed | Challenge #2

What started out as a joke experiment knowing us and our bed-making habits (which are none), we actually ended up doing extremely well.

Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: Started planning my trip to London, Philippines, and Taiwan! Annie, you’ll come see me while I’m in Taiwan, right? Also… do we watch too much YouTube? HAHAHA…

Annie: Hahaha, we seriously do watch too much YouTube…but it’s okay. It’s our shared hobby! 😀 Week one of living alone – check. It’s been nice and quiet in the house. Doesn’t feel much different than when my mom is home. Except that now, I’m actually not lazy and do house chores (not that I was lazy before…it just wasn’t constantly on my mind).

  • I feel like I have to mention at least one thing about Rhett & Link each week because I want to share what makes me laugh! In this episode, they do the “try not to flinch” challenge, but instead of just watching YouTube videos, they use their audio, vision, tactile senses to invoke flinches. Check it out!
  • This is a few weeks old but I stumbled upon this video of Josh Gad on Jimmy Fallon doing Box of Microphones (Disney Edition). Hilarious.
  • Alike” a short film about creativity in society.
  • Bohemian Rhapsody cover by Pentatonix
  • Alicia Keys and John Mayer are LOVE. Listen to this mash up of “If I ain’t got you” and “Gravity”.

My Fitness Journey: Unbalanced Strength

IMG_E99CBCC421B6-1

Today after finishing up my leg workout, I realized that my right leg is weaker than my left. While doing my last exercise, isolated single leg presses, I noticed that I was struggling a lot more when working my right side. Then this got me thinking about what other muscles I had imbalanced strength in. My left arm is slightly stronger than my right arm, especially when I do concentrated bicep curls. Basically my left side of my body is more dominant than my right which is really weird considering I’m right handed and supposedly right side dominant?? When I snowboard, I ride goofy which means my left leg is in the back (the more dominant one), so maybe that further confirms my left side is stronger. I figured out that my right leg is weaker than my left because I injured my right ankle a few years back and I didn’t do my physical therapy exercises (oops).

Bookworms in Training | Challenge #1

Prologue by Juliet

One day while cleaning out my room, I noticed that I had so many books that I hadn’t read. The thought of them sitting in my room and collecting dust bothered me so much that I made it one of my goals for 2017 to read them, and then either pass them along to friends or donate them.

But how was I going to find the time and energy to read every day? I get up at around 6:30 am every day, and get home at around 7 pm with very little energy left to spare. So when Annie suggested that we try an experiment of reading a minimum of 10 pages every day, I jumped at the opportunity of forcing myself to read and cleaning out my room.

How did we do?

Juliet’s March Financial Diary

February 28, 2017

There are times when I look at my bank account and I ask myself where all my money went. I keep track of my expenses in Quicken, but I never delved into analyzing my spending habits.

Me being a weirdo and love to self-analyze, that’s when I decided to challenge myself: for the month of March, I am giving myself a $500 budget to spend for groceries, gas, and fun money. Rent, utilities, and Internet are not included in the $500. This way I would have a better understanding of the habits and emotions behind how and when I spend money. I arbitrarily chose $500 because I think that will cover all my costs without giving me too much fun money to spend. The results from this month’s experiment can serve as a baseline for the future.

Thoughts of the Week

Juliet: This has been an emotionally draining week for me – I haven’t felt like this in a long time. There was a lot of emotions flying around me this week, and with my own emotions on top of that, it was a lot to handle.

Annie: This week my mom flew back home to Thailand. It’s been quiet in the house by myself, but I’m getting used to it by playing music. It’s cool to experience living on my own without any housemates – something that I’ve done my whole life. I have a feeling that it might get lonely after awhile. We shall see.

Things We’ve Been Enjoying

Annie

  • Ear Biscuits is back! You can check out Rhett and Link’s weekly podcast on iTunes or YouTube or Soundcloud! I couldn’t stop laughing while listening to the first episode, about their road rage incident.
  • Favorite song of the week: Symphony by Clean Bandit

Juliet

  • This Tyler Ward original song SOS – I truly believe that music has the ability to heal anyone.
  • My female celebrity crush of all time is Kristen Bell and she was recently on The Late Late Show with James Corden and faced a mishap during a skit.
